Book 1 in The World Aflame Series ~ NEW ADULT
(Young Adult Appropriate)

THE EARTH GIVES WAY TO THE SEA,
THE SEA BOWS BEFORE THE WIND,
THE WIND FEEDS THE FLAME,
THE FLAME BURNS THE WORLD OF MAN DOWN TO THE EARTH.

The sleepy town of White Halls harbors a dangerous secret. On a picturesque street, two houses down from a lovely little park, in a quaint little home with a wraparound porch, lives a family that seems rather normal. Sure, their twenty-year-old son, Xander, still lives at home, but he's going to college and dating the leader of the schools top sorority. It's all very... normal.  However, when a man is miraculously saved from being hit by a bus, Xander's life turns in to the living embodiment of the tornadoes he can suddenly create with a flick of his wrist. Whether he wants this gift or not, Xander must learn to use his new 'super power' quickly if he wants to survive.  For his kind is a dying race, and when this sleepy town has a sudden influx of new, blonde, fire wielders, no one is safe, especially Xander. It doesn't help that one of these blondes happens to be the most beautiful girl he has ever seen. Xander can't deny the instant connection he feels to her so, when she tries to kill him, it certainly makes things complicated.

Author Bio – MK Schiller

This is my debut novel, and I’m thrilled to share it with you.  I describe myself as a hopeless romantic in a hopelessly pragmatic world. By day, I don a magic cape, calculator (sometimes an abacus), and an assortment of gel pens for my work in the world of finance. But by night, I sit by the warm glow of my computer monitor, and think of stories that will warm the heart, and cheer the soul.

There is nothing better than the intimate journey and ultimate satisfaction that only a swoon-worthy romance can provide, especially if there are a few laughs along the way.  Although writing is my passion, I am a reader first and enjoy nothing more than curling up with a good book and some tasty Italian (the food, of course!). I hope you will enjoy my work and please drop me a line. I’d love to hear from you.

Author Interview:
First how are you doing today?
Thanks for asking Kristi. I’m well, grateful to be invited on your blog, and excited to be interviewed by you.
How are your book/books doing right now in comparison to what you hoped?
I have received about ten reviews from bloggers and most are 5 stars so I’m very happy with that.  The book just came out last week and it’s my first so I really don’t have a comparison.
Most important thing about being a writer?
I think it’s easy to get into the whole, “I had a bad day so my book sucks” mode. It’s hard to develop a thick skin like you need to have in this industry. I’m working toward that every day. Sometimes it slips off and a critique hits me the wrong way, but luckily, I have a support group to help me through those times.
Where do you get your inspiration from?
Other stories, conversations, pictures, watching people.  I think writers are observers first and foremost.
How do you cope if you get a bad review?
See thick skin above.  I try to look at what I’ve accomplished, and remember that everything about this profession is subjective.  Not everyone is going to like you.  Make sure you like yourself.
Occupational hazards of being a writer?
You know when people have that faraway look and it’s like they’re not paying attention to you? I get accused of having that look more often these days. I don’t mean to be rude, but honestly, I’m writing in my head.
What book or film character would you say you were most like?
Allison Reynolds who is Ally Sheedy’s character in the Breakfast Club.  I’m usually the reclusive loner, but she kisses the head wrestler so that’s where my love of all things romance began.
What makes you laugh?
Sarcastic and dry humor, which can be found in movies like Horrible Bosses and There’s Something about Mary or books like Alice Clayton’s Wallbanger.
Which has been the hardest to write?
I think my new adult work in progress.  It’s a multicultural romance and the characters are struggling with their identities, cultural ties, and their desire for each other so there is a lot going on.
Any hints as to what lies ahead for your characters?
This is a stand alone book, but I am playing around with maybe doing another book based on one of Marley’s sisters.
Favorite character?
That’s like asking me who my favorite child is…the third one. Just kidding – I only have two.  I like them all for different reasons. Marley is a tomboy who can be high fashion and although she’s had tragedy in her life, she still finds reasons to laugh.  Rick is a hot man who is full of warmth and humor.
Least favorite?
Probably Kathy Carver – a woman who doesn’t really like other women.  You know the type – the ones that never have a nice compliment and have to be the center of attention in every room. Hopefully, I’ve written her so readers can relate.
Which character would you like to meet in real life?
Dillon because he’s fun and has his own quirks, but always pulls out a good one-liner.
Interview question you want to answer but no one has ever asked?
Your favorite authors?  Alice Clayton, Stephen King, Dan Brown, Colleen Hover, Abbi Glines, and EL James.
Favorite book right now?
I really like Raine Miller’s Blackstone series.  But I change favorite books like I change clothes...once a month.  Just kidding!
What genres of books do you read?
Contemporary romance with touches of humor
How do you feel about your fan base?
I don’t know if I can say I have one. My book just came out.  There is a gaggle of family and friends that support me.  The bloggers who have read my book have done an amazing job getting my name out there, but I’m really not sure when you can quantify a reader as a fan. Maybe, ask me this one in a year.
Did you ever dream you would become an author?
I always dreamt it but never thought it would come true.  Sometimes it feels so surreal, I might be dreaming right now.
Best thing about your author journey so far?
All of the amazing people who have supported me. My family, friends, beta readers, bloggers.  Some of the nicest people I’ve met have been through Facebook and Yahoo groups.
If there was one thing you wish you could explain to readers about the way writing a book works (as in not written to upset the reader) what would it be?
Authors write the book, but they don’t control things like price or advertising.  The marketing part is hard and if you’re new like me, it can make your head spin. I was under the impression I just write it, but there is so much more to this world.
Random questions -
Do you have any weird quirks you'd like to share with the public? :)
I am currently self-stalking.  I look up Amazon, Goodreads, emails, and Facebook every day to see if there is a new review or post.  I’m thinking about taking out a restraining order…on myself.
Favorite color?
Green …like sexy glittering eyes staring into your soul, claiming you without uttering a word – hmmm…maybe
I should use that
Favorite food?
Anything chocolate
Do you collect anything? Or have any specific interests?
I collect books but now they’re stored in my e-reader.
Best memory as an adult?
Getting married, birth of my children, getting my US citizenship, graduating college and of course…getting my book published.
Is there a person, alive or dead, you dream about meeting if you could?
My grandfather. He died before I was born and everyone tells me he was a wonderful man.  I’d really love to give him a hug and have a conversation.

Excerpt
“I want to kiss you again. I don’t want to wait on that.” He barely had the car in park before he placed his hands on either side of my face and drew me close to him. His lips felt like velvety pillows. The kiss was softer, slower, but no less passionate than our first kiss. He coaxed his way into my mouth. He explored with a profound depth while he caressed my face and neck with his fingertips. He worked his way down my jawline to my neck, punctuating each progression with soft, wet kisses. He pulled away, but continued stroking my hair with his fingers, staring at me intently. The sounds of our rapid breathing permeated the air. “Don’t masturbate.” The words were the most shocking I’d ever heard.

My hand shot up and struck his face in a hasty reaction to the command. I slapped Rick. I didn’t slap him for the kiss. I loved the kiss. I smacked him for telling me not to masturbate. Surely, he wasn’t taking away my only form of relief.

He rubbed his check and I immediately felt guilty. “I can’t believe you slapped me. Are you into some S&M shit I need to know about?”

“No…sorry, but are you fucking crazy? First you tell me we have to wait until the results, then you kiss me like that and now you’re saying don’t masturbate?”

He grinned impishly and pulled me towards him again. “I won’t either. When I finally fuck you, it’ll be worth it. It will make everything so much more…epic. Do you know what I mean?”

“No,” I replied, pouting.

The elevator let us off and I breathed a sigh of relief to be in an open space again. Kathy wasn’t done though. She stopped in front of Rick, smiling broadly, flipping her dark hair. “Well, if three’s not a crowd then like I said, I would love to join you. I have some ideas of my own.”

Oh crap! I almost laughed at the absurdity of her statement, but I restrained myself, leaning against the wall outside the elevator for support, not daring to speak again.

Rick smiled brightly and took Kathy’s hand. He took her hand! “Kathy, I would love to hear your ideas, but right now, I really need a one-on-one with Marley. I need to give her all my input, no matter how long it takes. I need her to take all the data I can possibly give her so she can…come…up with the finished reports.” His loaded pause between the word ‘come’ was not lost on me. “It will be boring for you to just watch us. I mean, there’s nothing you can do for me, right now. I’m in desperate need of Marley’s assistance with this.” His words gushed with sexual suggestion and he knew it…so did I.
